Bourne 5

Finally, we have some more news from the upcoming yet-to-be-titled fifth BOURNE movie in the form of new photos and the official synopsis.

We last saw Matt Damon up in space – or Mars to be exact – in THE MARTIAN and now we see him back on Earth and he looks to be in good form as he has once again reprised his role in the BOURNE franchise after passing over the leading man reins to Jeremy Renner in the previous film.

The fifth BOURNE movie has no official movie title yet, but what we do know is that it picks up 12 years after we last saw him in THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM, which was released in 2007 but set in 2004. However, in the new film, he is back in 2016 and by the photos which have been released, they’re not giving too much away!

The photos were revealed in Entertainment Weekly, where Damon also revealed some information about what the audience can expect from the movie. It seems that even thought the amnesiac super-spy has been AWOL since 2004, he still cannot put to rest the demons of his past and he continues with his research about the Government that betrayed him so badly: “We find him in a dark and tortured place,” said Damon.

“There’s been the financial collapse, the great recession, all these issues of cyberwarfare and civil liberties,” confirmed Damon. Well of course it wouldn’t be BOURNE without him being inwardly tortured and out for revenge in some shape or form, but his inquisitive nature some at a cost, BOURNE 5 will feature a “nighttime riot scene” in Athens in act one, and a “big car chase” on the Vegas strip in act three. That certainly all sounds in-keeping with the franchise and what we have come to love about it.

Once again, Damon will be reunited with Julia Stiles, who played female lead Nicky Parsons in the three previous Bourne-centric adventures. (She was also absent in the fourth film, THE BOURNE LEGACY starring Renner.)

There are some new characters thrown into the mix including Alicia Vikander (yes, she’s in another film. No, we don’t think she is a fan of time off!) as a cyberspecialist, Tommy Lee Jones as a tough CIA agent, and Vincent Cassel as a villain.

The good news for fans of the THE BOURNE SUPREMACY and THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM is that the director of those films, Paul Greengrass is back in the director’s chair calling the shots. It all sounds rather perfect right now.
