scarlett johansson Ghost in the Shell

Classic Japanese anime GHOST IN THE SHELL is to grace our screens in a US remake, with leading lady Scarlett Johansson securing her lead role.

The LUCY and THE AVENGERS actress has recently established herself as a fearful, female action star which no doubt helped her land this exciting role.

The live action remake of the classic Japanese anime is likely to see the actress portray the character based on the Cyborg detective Major Motoko Kusanagi – a key character from the 1995 film and comic book series.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Scarlett Johansson has confirmed she will take the lead role, and her character’s version of Kusanagi is the team leader of a Japanese counter-terrorism organisation focused on cybercrime in a futuristic world where a vast electronic network controls the way of life.

Director Rupert Sanders (SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN) will direct the film, based on the script from Bill Wheeler (THE RELUCTANT FUNDAMENTALIST), and will need to be impressive to live up to the $10million Johansson was offered for the role.

With a Matrix feel to the impending movie, the American will no doubt help the movie compete with Three anime films, an animated Japanese TV series and Three video games all based on the original ‘Ghost in the Shell ‘comics.

The highly anticipated movie will be the first version using the English language and will no doubt impress after being met with the classic Hollywood touch.
