Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett Johansson will be rocking the big screen this month as Black Widow in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, and now reports suggest that she could possibly play a lead in another major franchise.

According to The Tracking BoardUniversal is currently in talks to bag the actress in the lead role of the CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON remake. Jeff Blitz, Gary Ross, Tedi Sarafian and Paul Schering are penning the script, with Robin Bissell, Marc Abraham and Eric Newman on producing duties.

The original was released in 1954 and was brought to the big screen by Jack Arnold. The story centres around a group of scientists on an Amazonian expedition who discover a mythical man-fish hybrid. Dubbed “gill man” the creature becomes attracted to the group after spotting female scientist Kay Lawrence, played by Julie Adams in the original. Could this be the part they are eyeing up for Johansson? It remains unclear at the moment.

As revealed last year, Universal are currently developing its own interconnected series of films, known widely as  “Monster-verse” which began last year with the release of DRACULA UNTOLD starring Luke Evans.

The second film to be released is  within that series is Alex Kurtzman’s remake of THE MUMMY, which lands in cinemas in June 2016.
