Okay so here it is, it’s official, Sam Smith has finally confirmed that he will be singing the theme for the upcoming James Bond film SPECTRE.
After months, if not years, of speculation, the singer announced the exciting news on twitter earlier this week, describing the opportunity as one of the highlights of his career.

The song, which is titled “Writings on the Wall”, was co-written by Smith and Jimmy Napes. It is set to debut on September 25, and amazingly will mark the first James Bond theme to be sung by a British male solo artist since 1965.

In his twitter post the man of the moment wrote: “This is one of the highlights of my career. I am honoured to finally announce that I will be singing the next Bond theme song“. “I am so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible line up of some of my biggest musical inspirations. I hope you all enjoy the song as much as I enjoyed making it“.

However its not just Smith who is excited by his participation, Spectre producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli are also pretty stoked Sam and Jimmy have written the most inspirational song for Spectre and with Sam’s extraordinary vocal performance, ‘Writing’s on the Wall’ will surely be considered one of the greatest Bond songs of all time.

Before the big announcement, Smith hinted at the news  earlier this week, posting an image of himself wearing a ring engraved with the symbol of, none other than, the evil organisation SPECTRE. The news finally arrived after endless denials from the vocalist that he would be singing the theme tunes. The denial led to avid speculation, with many being led to believe that Ellie Goulding would be the voice behind Spectre.

With Adele winning an Oscar for her efforts on the previous Bond hit “Skyfall”, Smith will have a lot to live it up to and the expectations are as high as ever, hopefully he will be able equal maybe even surpass his predecessor. Spectre is set to be released on October 26, 2015 in the UK (November 6, 2015, in the US), which means that there shouldn’t be too long for all of the Bond fans, but if all this Spectre talk has got you craving some action why not watch the highly anticipated trailer below.
