Sam Smith

Many may not be shaken or stirred by the following piece of news, but it has been confirmed after months of speculation that Sam Smith has recorded the theme song for upcoming James Bond movie SPECTRE.

The track is called ‘Writing’s on the Wall’ released by Capitol Records and will be available to purchase and stream on September 25th.

Smith has co-written the title song with fellow Grammy award winner Jimmy Napes, who worked with him on the number one hits ‘Stay With Me‘ and ‘La La La‘.

Dance act Disclosure – who gave Smith his big break on the single Latch – tweeted that they had “added some additional production” to the song.

Smith said: “This is one of the highlights of my career. I am honoured to finally announce that I will be singing the next Bond theme song. I am so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible line up of some of my biggest musical inspirations.  I hope you all enjoy the song as much as I enjoyed making it.”

It is the first James Bond theme song recorded by a British male solo artist since 1965.

In recent months, there has been a great deal of speculation as to who would have the honour of recording the track and alongside Smith other names thrown into the mix were Ellie Goulding, Radiohead and Lana Del Rey.

No English recording artist that has voiced the official James Bond theme song has reached number one in the UK charts. Is Sam Smith going to be the man to break the mould? We have a feeling he might just do it….

SPECTRE will be released in the UK on October 26 and in the US on November 6.
