Sometimes it’s hard to remember that before Russell Brand was a political activist and spokesperson; he was a beloved comic, television presenter and actor. Well it looks like he might be, all be it temporary, be putting down the placards and turning off his webcam to star in Larry Charles (BORAT, CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM) new indie comedy ARMY OF ONE.

Set in the late 00’s, the film is set to star Nicolas Cage and revolves around the ‘so-odd-it-has-to-be-true’ tale of Gary Faulkner, a man who, equipped with only items from an American home shopping network and his own inventions, decides to track down and personally eliminate one of the worlds most dangerous and wanted men, Osama Bin Laden.

UK readers might not be aware of the cultural phenomenon Gary Faulkner became in the United States. Who, once the story got out about his efforts, Internet fame and notoriety surrounded him as he appeared on numerous talk shows leading him to ultimately retired his assault on one of the worlds most wanted men. Only then to be arrested a year later for firing a gun at his apartment complex resulting in him going to jail.

Although not one hundred present confirmed as to whether Cage will star as the aforementioned Faulkner, it’s safe to assume that he will. Russell Brand’s character at this time is unknown. The film is also set to star Rainn Wilson (THE OFFICE USA) Denis O’Hare (AMERICAN HORROR STORY), Ken Marino (CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL), Paul Scheer (THE LEAGUE) and Wendi McLendon-Convey (BRIDESMAIDS).

Although on paper the combination of Russell Brand and Nicolas Cage may appear to be an odd one. The director’s previous work, style of humor and the bizarre subject matter should make for an entertaining project.

Filming has already begun on the project and is due either later this year or early next year.
