Rousey

It’s fair to say that Hollywood has a lot of confidence in the star power of Ronda Rousey…

Since its announcement last month, Rousey’s latest project, a remake of Patrick Swayze’s ROAD HOUSE, has gathered some serious momentum with the announcement of its director, Nick Cassavetes.

Cassavetes has experience working both in front and behind the camera, starring in such films as THE HANGOVER PART II and FACE/OFF and as a recurring guest star in the television show ENTOURAGE.

However, Variety claimed that Cassavetes landed the action brawler gig for his work behind the camera due to his skill of writing and directing strong roles for women.

Cassavetes is probably best known for emotionally devastating and tear jerking films such as THE NOTEBOOK (a film notable for launching the careers of its two leading stars Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams), MY SISTERS KEEPER as well as last year’s comedy hit, THE OTHER WOMAN.

ROAD HOUSE was originally released in 1989. The picture starred Patrick Swayze as a bouncer hired to clean up one the sleaziest, rowdiest and out of control bars in Missouri, known as The Double Deuce. Swayze’s character has to not only save the bar, but also fight off the corruption of a businessman who has horrific plans for the town. You can watch the unbelievably 80’s trailer for the original below:

The remake was announced last month by MGM who are looking to bring ROAD HOUSE into the modern era with Rousey set to play the film’s lead, hoping to add a new feminist spin to the predominantly masculine and testosterone-filled original.

The film is still in development while Rousey trains for her upcoming fight against Holly Holm on the 14th of November. The film has been fast tracked into production, to capitalise on The UFC fighter-turned-actress current popularity, and is expected to enter production sometime early next year with a release date due late 2016 or early 2017.
