For a man in his mid 70’s, Ridley Scott has been tirelessly working for the past couple of years to bring us films such as BODY OF LIES, ROBIN HOOD, EXODUS: GODS AND KINGS and this year’s heavily anticipated THE MARTIAN. However during an interview with Total Film Magazine, Scott may have let slip some information about what the future holds for one of his most divisive films, PROMETHEUS.

When asked about the future of the ALIEN prequel sequel, Scott stated that he is set to start filming the follow up to the worldwide box office smash as soon as January 2016.

This came as a surprise to some fans, as this is the first time in a long while since we have heard any news surrounding PROMETHEUS since the sequel was announced roughly this time last year.

Scott was always set to direct the project, with Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender reprising their roles from the previous film. Michael Green reportedly has written a script while Scott and Walter Hill will produce.

One beloved character that will not return for the sequel is the series most iconic villain, the Xenomorph. Scott has confirmed on multiple occasions that the acid spitting killing machines will not feature within PROMETHEUS 2.

In an interview with Yahoo Movies Scott confirmed that his involvement with the monsters was “done” hinting that he has far more interest in telling the story of the Engineers. “I think you’ve got to come back with something more interesting and I think we’ve found the next step. I thought the Engineers were quite a good start.”

If this is to be believed, then expect PROMETHEUS 2 to be hitting cinemas around the world either late 2016 or early 2017.
