Spider-man

Many fans of SPIDER-MAN and Marvel movies in general were elated to hear the news that the wall-crawler would finally be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For some time Sony owned the film rights to the character and as a result, a character that in the pages of Marvel comics rubs shoulders with Captain America and Thor and could not be included in the Marvel Studios movies.

Peter Parker was resigned to the lonely solo franchise. However, Sony and Marvel managed to come to an agreement where they would share the character and can collaborate on a series of solo Spider-man films, so he would at last be involved in the shared universe movies. With SPIDER-MAN finally being included in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Sony and Marvel felt it necessary to recast Peter Parker. Although they had their flaws, I loved the AMAZING SPIDER-MAN movies. I thought Andrew Garfield was great in those movies. It would have been good to see him go on to play the character for a bit longer, but that’s show business.

The rumour mill has been buzzing with theories as to who is being considered for the role for some time. However, recently reports have said that there are now only two actors in the running. What was a short-list of five actors has now been narrowed down to Asa Butterfield of ENDER’S GAME and Tom Holland of HOW I LIVE NOW. I am sure whoever gets the role will do a good job, however even if they don’t, the excitement of finally seeing SPIDER-MAN back home, on-screen with the THE AVENGERS will more than make up for it.
