Paris International Film Festival Director and film-maker Jenna Suru announced the second of the key Festival jurors, as the momentum for the upcoming event, which takes place in February 2021, builds with even more exciting news – which Film and TV Now will bring you as and when it is announced being one of the Official Partners.

Bobby Roth is one of the most prolific talents working in Film and Television today. Here is more about him from his biography:

Bobby Roth was born and raised in Los Angeles. He studied philosophy and creative writing at UC Berkeley before graduating with a BA in Cinema from USC in 1972. He went on to film school at UCLA, where he received his MFA in Motion Picture Production in 1975.

Since then he has directed more than one-hundred episodes of television, twenty-two TV movies, and fourteen feature films. He was a founding member of the Independent Feature Project and the first Co-Chairman of the DGA’s Independent Feature Committee.

His films have won countless awards and have been exhibited in over 100 international film festivals. He also teaches film seminars throughout the world and directed the Award-winning documentary, A DIRECTOR PREPARES: BOBBY ROTH’S MASTERCLASS.

He still resides in Los Angeles, actively working in the entertainment industry.”

Roth is relishing the opportunity to be a Juror at the Festival, as is reflected in his testimonial based on his decades-long love of what appears to be his adopted creative country in a journey that began over forty years ago:

In 1976 I boldly headed to France where my chutzpah and bravado led me the Cannes Film Festival and to show my first independent film to the great filmmaker, Costa-Gavras, who was then head of the Cannes Jury. Costa appreciated my UCLA Master’s Thesis, Independence Day, enough to recommend it to Henri Langlois, then head of the French Cinematheque. The kindness and confidence in me from these great Frenchmen inspired me to go forward making 150 films and TV shows while developing a love of all things French. I have been back across the pond no less than eighty times.

During these most challenging of times we find ourselves looking for life rafts in a storm of fear and uncertainty. The very blessings that comforted and soothed us throughout our lives have been stripped away and we’re left only with memories of happier days. Until this year I didn’t fully appreciated the good fortune I enjoyed.

So it’s with no small amount of appreciation that I welcome my “virtual return” to the country that first showed me the pleasures of art and established my love of all gifts cinematic by including me on the jury of the Paris International Film Festival. Thank you, Jenna.

Best, Bobby”
