The relationship between a troubled youth and his fencing teacher are explored in the new narrative short GAUCHE TOUCHĖ (LEFT HIT)

Hicham is about to be transferred at his own request to a centre, but his teacher Valérie is determined to see him get a better life away from the fencing world, which she regards as uncertain through her own cynical perspective. However, Hicham feels there is a lot more promise within his passion for the discipline that might take him to places he wants….

Writer/director Alexandre Labarussiat takes the classic mentor/pupil motif and transposes it to the world of the sabre amidst the backdrop of a seemingly cold world and perspective, something we can all identify with at present.

About the film-maker:

After a Master’s degree of cinema at the University of Paris 8 Saint-Denis and the directing of several self-produced short films, Alexandre Labarussiat directed La Ville Est Calme, released in 2012, freely inspired by a short story by Ray Bradbury (OCS broadcast, selections in Rhode Island, Strasbourg…).

Labarussiat is currently working on his first feature film. His next short Hit on the Left is inspired by his years of fencing. The screenplay won the First Prize of the Eure Screenplay Contest and was also selected at the Talents en Courts.
