Gender equality and its’ definition and meaning has never been more at the forefront of the world consciousness at present, but what if those evident challenges are affected by long-term historical and political legacies that impact on a particular culture and country?

Such is the dilemma facing the people of Cyprus, a populace that has been split over more than half a century by the Cypriot / Turkish conflicts that have yielded the last divided country in Europe, but within the heartland there are women who are determined to find a way forward with help from all manner of political figures.

This is the backdrop for Camera-person/Director/Producer/Writer Petra Terzi’s SHE SHOULD RUN – CYPRUS, which interviews several key female representatives who have campaigned for equality as a human right, as well as look for a deeper perspective that will hopefully help future generations understand their place in the world.

We see people working in various elements of the infrastructure, who reveal that national identity and whether you have allegiance to the Greek Cypriot or Turkish Cypriot consciousness are as valid as the business and financial interests that will drive Cyprus forward as the twenty-first century moves on amidst the uncertainty of the pandemic and the ongoing political manifestations and mandates of a post-Brexit European Union.

At just under an hour running time, SHE SHOULD RUN – CYPRUS is very much a quick-fire introduction to the key issues that make up the current status quo of Cyprus’ own identity and Terzi certainly has the potential to expand this work into a multi-episode analysis of what it means to be a true Cypriot.

That said, tt isn’t designed to provide a quick-fire solution to the challenges, but it certainly does celebrate the female mindset that will certainly invite some dialogue and discussion for film-makers and fans who would certainly welcome a broader insight into the potential of the island community as both a valid personal and political voice.
