The Paris International Film Festival 2021 closed on Sunday 14th February 2021, completing ten days of an incredibly successful online event that has attracted some of the most diverse and talented film-makers across the globe, as well as gaining interest from other film festivals like the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival, which is in itself a springboard for some of the top films in each calendar year.

Festival Director Jenna Suru reflected:

At the Paris International Film Festival, we are thrilled by the massive success of this virtual edition. We have been working all year on building an event that would be exciting and beneficial to our filmmakers, to celebrate their films and important messages.

We are thrilled we have been enjoying such an interactive event, thanks to our partnership with Filmocracy, and that some of the most renowned festivals around the world have been attending our virtual edition to witness it.

Our programming has received such incredible feedback and generated a conversation on such topics as change, the environment, Human rights, anti-racism and gender equality. It has built some relationships that will hopefully solidify into more developments in the near future.

We’re excited for instance that our Documentary For Change Winner, PIONEERS IN SKIRTS’ Filmmakers Ashley Maria and Lea-Ann will be screening their film virtually at the UN next month. Also, as we were recording the Q&A with Sandy Lobry, Lead Actor of INFLUENCEUSE, we learned shortly after the lead in her film, Lauréna Thellier was awarded with a Revelation César (French equiv of Oscar).

One of our screenwriters has also secured finding a producer thanks to the selection of her script at the Festival, IRREVERENCE, that is also our award-winner and we are so excited to see made! At the Festival we are supporting artists who make the films that bring the change this world so much needs, and it is definitely what is happening.

I am also thrilled to be celebrating such an incredible cinema in the beautiful city of Paris, a huge inspiration and the most beautiful city in the world. It is our great honor to celebrate such a beautiful cinema from 5 continents and we were thrilled to keep the Parisian elements through our virtual events and the spirit of this change-making event”.

However, the action was not just to be found with the films on show, but in also in the ‘Virtual Village’ which was an online representation of Paris, with Notre Dame, Montmartre, the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower, where panels and Q and As took place.

These areas were a great chance and opportunity for fans and film-makers to mix and reflect on films and the issues they presented to the world, as well as providing a sense of fun and belonging in the ever-growing Paris International Film Festival community.

In addition, Suru was pleased and proud to announce the key Winners of the Script Competition that took place during this year’s Edition, which was overseen by Cheryl Neve and Melissa Hurry.
