Jane Campion’s The Power of the Dog tops contenders with 12 Academy Awards nominations, with Dune scoring 10 and Belfast and West Side Story both clocking seven.
The Oscar nominations were announced on Tuesday morning in Los Angeles, revealing which films have been popular amongst voters for the 2022 Academy Awards.
It may not come as a surprise to many as the POWER OF THE DOG, Jane Campion’s drama starring Benedict Cumberbatch swept the board at the Oscar nominations.
it was always pipped to do well amongst the categories and it was revealed today that the film has received no less than twelve nominations including best director for Campion who is a previous Oscar winner back in 1994 for THE PIANO screenplay. The Montana-based movie is also up for best picture, best adapted screenplay, best actor for Cumberbatch, best supporting actress for Kirsten Dunst and best supporting actor for both Kodi Smit-McPhee and Jesse Plemons.
Denis Villeneuve‘s DUNE is up for 10 awards for his adaptation of Frank Herbert’s sci-fi classic set in the distant future, whilst Steven Spielberg’s WEST SIDE STORY has seven nominations, alongside Kenneth Branagh‘s BELFAST.
The best picture shortlist is rounded out by LICORICE PIZZA, KING RICHARD, CODA, DON’T LOOK UP, DRIVE MY CAR and NIGHTMARE ALLEY.
