NETFLIX GREENLIGHTS NEW DOCUSERIES FOLLOWING SPORTING GIANTS JOSE MOURINHO AND CARLOS ALCARAZ AND BRINGS BACK FAN FAVOURITES

SIX NATIONS: FULL CONTACT season two is coming in 2025. Plus, sports documentary anthology series UNTOLD landing in the UK

THE FINAL: ATTACK ON WEMBLEY, a film capturing the drama of the Euro 2020 Final will launch in May 2024

As part of its Next On Netflix UK showcase event, Netflix today announced a variety of new projects that further cement its status as a premier storyteller in sports, featuring exclusive, behind-the-scenes stories with the most popular personalities, teams, leagues and federations in the UK, Europe and around the globe.

As part of its sports slate, Netflix greenlit two documentaries focusing on sporting giants, José Mourinho and Carlos AlcarazMOURINHO (working title) will explore the highs and lows that have shaped the footballing legend’s illustrious career, spanning his time at Chelsea, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Roma. ALCARAZ (working title) will highlight Carlos Alcaraz’s dramatic rise up the ranks as he paves the way for a new era in tennis.

Hot on their heels, fan favourite, SIX NATIONS: FULL CONTACT has been confirmed for a season 2 which will launch in 2025. Produced by Box to Box Films, the award-winning producers of FORMULA 1: DRIVE TO SURVIVE, the second instalment of SIX NATIONS: FULL CONTACT will once again go behind the scenes to offer fans an intimate view of the best teams in Europe as they battle it out in some of the biggest matches in the rugby calendar.

The critically acclaimed anthology docu-series, UNTOLD, heads to the UK and will pull back the curtain on epic events and personalities in the world of football. These stories will go beyond the headlines and upend what we thought we knew.

Highly anticipated documentary film THE FINAL: ATTACK ON WEMBLEY will launch in May 2024. The film will examine one of the biggest and fraught moments in English footballing history through the eyes of those who were there via user-generated content, archive and interviews.

ALCARAZ (working title) (2025): The docu-series will follow the tennis prodigy Carlos Alcaraz both on and off the courts during his 2024 season. The series will get closer than ever before to one of the best athletes in the world who is revolutionising the world of tennis. Produced by Morena Films (LaLiga).

MOURINHO (2025): Twenty years after he shocked the sporting world to lead FC Porto to Champions League victory, this documentary series will take an in-depth look at the life and times of the footballing pioneer, Jose Mourinho. His career at Chelsea, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Roma is an unrivalled story of glory and controversy. 

From producer John Battsek (Beckham; The Deepest Breath; WHAM!) and director Joe Pearlman (Lewis Capaldi: How I’m Feeling Now; Robbie Williams; Bros: After The Screaming Stops) the series will include exclusive interviews with the man himself, players and peers spanning his impressive career – lifting the veil on the man behind the “special one” persona.

SIX NATIONS: FULL CONTACT SEASON 2 (2025): Six Nations and producers of Formula 1: Drive to Survive bring fans closer than ever to the 2024 Guinness Six Nations Championship. Six Nations: Full Contact will take viewers inside the exhilarating world of the oldest and greatest annual international rugby tournament, giving fans an insight into behind the scenes moments, as the best teams in Europe battle it out in some of the biggest matches in the rugby calendar to take home the prestigious trophy.

Six Nations: Full Contact is executive-produced by Academy-Award winner James Gay-Rees (Amy; Senna), Paul Martin (Diego Maradona) and Martin Conway for Box to Box Films.

THE FINAL: ATTACK ON WEMBLEY (May 2024): On July 11, 2021, Wembley Stadium was on the brink of a historic win for Gareth Southgate‘s England team. The squad had inspired the country on their journey to England’s first major final since 1966, and the European Championship was within their reach.

But as England supporters arrived at Wembley from all corners of the country, celebration quickly turned to chaos. Mayhem took over with scenes of drunkenness and drug-taking, and ticketless fans saw an opportunity to storm the stadium. With compelling first-hand testimony and visceral user-generated-content, this is the dramatic story of a day that began with euphoria, and ended in a nation left reeling.

The Final: Attack on Wembley is executive produced by Aloke Devichand, James Rogan and Soleta Rogan and directed by Rob Miller and Kwabena Oppong.

UNTOLD UK (working title) (2025): The critically acclaimed docu-series UNTOLD pulls back the curtain on epic tales from the wide (and wild) world of football. These stories go well beyond the headlines and upend what we thought we knew. Each character-driven story hinges on candid, intimate first-person accounts from those who lived it – to reveal the grit, resilience, heartbreak, triumph, and even humour beneath the sweat.

These projects build on Netflix’s overall global sports programming success, following previously launched and announced titles like BECKHAMTOUR DE FRANCEFULL SWING; QUARTERBACKCAPTAINS OF THE WORLD; SPRINT (working title); SUNDERLAND ‘TIL I DIELALIGALAST CHANCE UTHE LAST DANCECHEER AND AT HOME WITH THE FURYS.
