The series, which has been adapted from Pullman’s hugely successful trilogy of novels – will air later this year over eight episodes on BBC One.

Alongside the new trailer, the Beeb has also released some brand new pictures, which they released on social media featuring the main characters and creatures.

Starring in the series is James McAvoy (IT CHAPTER TWO) who has taken on the role of Lord Asriel and Clarke Peters (THE WIRE) who plays the Master raising Lyra (Dafne Keen), the daughter of Lord Asriel. Lin-Manuel Miranda has also been confirmed as a cast member, with the Hamilton creator playing Lee Scoresby.

The series tells the story of an orphan called Lyra Belacqua, who lives in a parallel universe. She embarks on a quest to find her kidnapped friend and as a result discovers an ominous plot involving kidnapped children.

His Dark Materials

The series has been in development since 2015 and has been penned by This is England writer, Jack Thorne. The first series hasn’t even aired yet, but it has already been confirmed that a second series will be in production after.
