Luke Cage

Heroic Hollywood has recently published an unconfirmed synopsis for Marvel and Netflix’s upcoming Luke Cage series.

The show will document the adventures of Luke Cage in Hell’s Kitchen, a location introduced in DAREDEVIL. It is currently unknown if the series will have any other ties to its predecessor. Cage will debut in Jessica Jones-Marvel and Netflix’s second collaboration-portrayed by Mike Colter.

The synopsis reads:

Luke Cage is a former gang member who is framed for a crime. In prison, he volunteers for a medical experiment that goes awry, giving him super strength and bulletproof skin. Using his newfound powers, Cage escapes and becomes a hero for hire. His archenemy is Willy Stryker, a former childhood friend from Harlem. The two committed petty crimes together, and both fell for the same woman, Reva Connors, which led to their eventual falling out. It was Stryker who framed Cage for a drug deal that sent him to prison.

In Marvel lore, Willis Stryker is the true identity of the villain Diamondback, whom has a penchant for knives. Both he and Cage were friends and low-ranking gang members. Cage decided to give up a life of crime but Stryker rose through the ranks and became a formidable underworld figure. Unable to cope with Willis’ violent profession, his girlfriend Reva Connors turns to Cage for solace. Angered by this, Stryker planted heroin on his former BFF and tipped off the police.

Diamondback was reportedly set to be the primary antagonist of an in-development Luke Cage movie in the mid-2000s, which never made it to the big screen.

Cotttonmouth, the character whom Stryker obtained the heroin used to frame Cage from, has also been rumoured to have a role in the Netflix series.

Oscar nominee Alfre Woodard could also be portraying one of the series’ antagonists having recently been cast in a role that is widely believed to be an updated version of the villain, Black Mariah. The character came up against both Luke Cage and Iron Fist on multiple occasions, leading a gang of thieves whom only stole from corpses before turning her hand to the drug trade.

DAREDEVIL season one is currently available on Netflix, with JESSICA JONES being released sometime this autumn. Luke Cage is set to debut in 2016, alongside DAREDEVIL season two. Iron Fist and The Defenders will arrive at a later date.
