Daredevil

With AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON only a day away (cue squeals of delight and excitement from the Film and TV Now staff) you’d think that Marvel would slow down its hype train to make sure that us die-hard nerds have a moment to catch our breath, but alas Marvel you are a cruel cruel company! As they have announced that they’re critically praised and adored Netflix production of DAREDEVIL has been commissioned for a second season to be ready to air some point in 2016.

Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson and a majority of the other cast will be back for the second season. With new producers Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez (who were also writers for the first season) taking over the realms of the show.

This isn’t the first time that DAREDEVIL has gone under some serious changes behind the scenes. The original show runner and producer, Drew Goddard, had to leave the first season early to start development on Sony’s SPIDERMAN’s franchise (which as we all know sadly fell through). Stephen S. Deknight then replaced Goddard after the first two episodes of season one where completed.

This newly announced second season has somewhat thrown off what many assumed would be Marvel’s game plan for their Netflix original programs. With fans believing that there would only be one season for each one of Netflix shows – DAREDEVIL, JESSICA JONES, LUKE CAGE, IRON FIST before ultimately ending with the cross over season THE DEFENDERS, which is still due in 2019.

The Defenders

This wouldn’t be the first time that Marvel has shifted their already pushed titles back. With the inclusion of SPIDERMAN into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the web-swingers first feature film outing for the company (due 2017) pushing back previously announced phase three films, such as BLACK PANTHER and CAPTAIN MARVEL to a later date than originally planned.

Although I’m only halfway through season one (please no spoilers), it’s understandable that they would move in this direction, what with DAREDEVIL being such a runaway success, not only for Marvel Studio’s but for Netflix as well.

Did you watch DAREDEVIL? Excited to see that you wont have to wait that long for a second outing with the character? Or are you mad that the defenders might be pushed further back to accommodate this new season? For more news as it happens check back to Film and TV Now.
