One of the biggest independent comedies, 2002 film MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING, raked in a massive $368 million world wide on a budget of just $5 million.

Directed by Joel Zwick, the hilarious rom-com focuses on wallflower Toula, played by Nina Vardalos, a young Greek woman who finds love in charming teacher, Ian, played by John Corbett. The two of them must make it to their wedding all while dealing with Toula’s loud and proud, Greek family.

Earlier this year we reported that a sequel was indeed on the cards and after MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING actress, Nia Vardalos, has confessed she was writing a brand new sequel for the popular movie, 12 years after the original film hit our screens and now it seems the film has gotten a director and distributor!

According to THR, Universal has signed on to distribute the film. With a big studio backing the sequel, we’re looking at a bigger budget with potential for even bigger laughs.

THR also reported that NANNY MCPHEE director Kirk Jones will be taking the reigns on the Portokalos family’s next adventure.

There are no plot details yet but if it’s anything like the first movie, it will be VERY Greek.
