Marvel could be about to add one of its newest and most diverse characters to its cinematic universe.

IGN reports that having recently signed a deal to develop an undisclosed project screenwriter John Ridley is rumoured to be working on an adaptation of Ms Marvel.

The Ms Marvel comic book written by G Willow Wilson and drawn by Adrian Alphona follows the exploits of Kamala Khan, an American Pakistani Muslim from New Jersey with shapeshifting abilities. Having discovered she possesses the ‘Inhuman’ gene, Kamala adopts the identity of Ms Marvel in honour of her inspiration Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers). During her adventures so far, the character has: taken on arch-villain The Inventor, juggled her heroic life and family life, and teamed up with both Wolverine and Spider-Man. The series debuted in February 2014.

Due to the character’s origin the series could easily connect to Marvel’s wider universe: expanding on the current ‘Inhuman’ plotline running through Agents of SHIELD, and foreshadowing the upcoming CAPTAIN MARVEL (November 2018) and INHUMANS (July 2019) movies.

If the rumour is true it is believed that the series would span for eight to ten episodes filling the gap between Agents of SHIELD’s midseason break. The series would explore the Kamala’s obsession with superheroes, and the wider cultural issue of Islamaphobia.

How this series would affect the airing schedule of AGENT CARTER or the recently announced Agents of SHIELD spin-off starring Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood is currently unknown.
