The Martian

The new trailer for Ridley Scott’s take on Andy Weir’s science fiction novel THE MARTIAN has really got the cinesphere chattering – and for all of the right reasons.

The official poster released by Twentieth Century Fox may have ‘Bring Him Home’ emblazoned all over it, but do not be fooled, this is not LES MISERABLES based in space, it is in fact a film, based on the book with the same title by Andy Weir, stars Matt Damon as Mark Watney, an astronaut who is stranded on Mars after a storm causes an evacuation of a human habitat.

While Watney survives with a minor injury, he is faced with trying to survive on an inhospitable planet, with limited supplies, 140 million miles from home.

In the face of overwhelming odds, I’m left with only one option,’ says Watney. ‘I’m going to have to science the s*** out of this.’

The trailer does provide us with a sneak peek into some of the setbacks Watney encounters along the way as he is flung about by storms and a powerful explosion that throws him out of his habitat. At one point, he frantically attempts to seal a crack in his helmet using duct tape.

Starring alongside Damon in the film is an impressive cast consisting of Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara, Michael Pena, Jeff Daniels, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Donald Glover

Drew Goddard, a graduate of Joss Whedon Academy, has written the script for Scott. Dariusz Wolski, his regular cinematographer, is back behind the camera.
