A female writer tries to escape from the troubles of a failed relationship and becomes the target of even more traumatic events in a remote rural getaway in the writer/directorial team of Jeetendri Pikiditi and Shabeel Dhami‘s new indie psychological thriller THE FINAL CHAPTER.

Jenny Sims (Ariadna Cabrol Espinal) is a successful writer who has decided to escape her personal troubles and throw herself into her work by moving to her country farm. Settling in, she decides to go to a local country bar where she meets Anna (Olivia McGuinness), a house singer, herself attempting to escape a bad relationship.
Come closing time, Anna doesn’t appear to have anywhere to stay. Jenny offers her a roof over her head for the night. Come morning, Jenny has been  enticed by Anna’s seeming charms and friendship and confides about her latest novel. Unfortunately, Anna does not appear to be happy that her main character Olivia has been killed off.
It is clear that things are still unwritten with this new-found friendship – and Anna might have some constructive suggestions on her own terms….

Echoes of Barbet Schroeder’s SINGLE WHITE FEMALE, Rob Reiner’s MISERY (who cannot forget Kathy Bates‘ Oscar-winning powerhouse performance as she caused sheer terror to James Caan in one of the best Stephen King movie adaptations) and WOLF CREEKTHE FINAL CHAPTER is a sparse but effective rural thriller, reliant on atmosphere and suggestion to draw the audience in, coupled with a highly unnerving score by Ramesh Kumar Kannan

The power of this film lies in the excellent performances from the two leads and I am sure there is more to come from them and the team behind this. For now and in the moment, savour the pleasure of watch a competently filmed and edited indie (the cinematography by Pidikiti is near-perfect) with more of a slow and subtle build to the climax and a film that should generate sufficient interest amongst fans of this type of thriller.
