A chip that contains a virus that could change the face of computer technology is at stake in the brand-new low-end indie thriller ORDER 86.

Frank Emerson works for the Lassiter International Enterprises Research and Development Complex that is developing the chip, which he assigns a colleague to pass on, however things get a little complicated and the chip, via the inside of a coin, ends up in the hands of waitress Jennifer Rosewood after Emerson takes a selfie at the café she works at.

In the meantime, different parties are also after the chip and Jennifer suddenly finds herself the subject of several interested parties, but with help from ‘replacement hero’ Sam and happy cabbie Bernie, Jennifer finds that she might just be the key to saving the world after all….

Shot in HD with the look of a soap opera, but energetic enough in the circumstances, ORDER 86 does have the makings of something that could be a genuinely enjoyable pilot for a TV series like those we grew up and loved like CHARLIE’S ANGELS and THE A-TEAM. It’s a bit sloppy at times, but retains a vibrant energy and a sense of spoof about it, even when it is determined to take itself a little more seriously than usual.

Occasional stereotypes (Example: two English agents who resent what America represents and prefer a good cup of tea amidst their mission to shoot down anybody who gets in the way) and a lot of twist and turns with characters who seem to be something other than that with another hidden agenda under others they might have, it does have the feel of a cut-price MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE, with some fairly staged shoot-outs and a climax in the classic Joel Silver mould.

One senses that the film-makers have something a bit more ambitious in mind and do make the most of the opportunity, but there is solid potential with these characters and a wanting chemistry that could work on a much bigger budget and a wink to the camera. As it stands, this is something to marvel at based on what can be achieved with the resources you have at hand, where limitation inspires creativity.
