The title may be a paraphrasal of Cuba Gooding Jr‘s Oscar-winning mantra to Tom Cruise in Cameron Crowe‘s JERRY MAGUIRE (1996), but it is time for sisters to show what they can do for themselves and others in Ky Dickens‘ new factual documentary SHOW HER THE MONEY

Regardless of your gender or demographic, the world of Venture Capital is a mysterious one, but as the individuals being showcased here, it is a chance to show the world what they can do. Only a small percentage of women have access to funding to bring their dreams to light, across many cities and cultures.
One of the Executive Producers of SHOW HER THE MONEY is Sharon Gless of CAGNEY AND LACEY fame and she is also on show here talking about how back in the day when she signed on, she wished she had a Venture Capitalist helping to negotiate her fees and residuals for the future. The film also throws up interesting historical context and the fact that women of previous generations have been responsible for many of the inventions like the dishwasher and air conditioning that we all take for granted in our daily lives.
That’s not to say that becoming entrepreneurs is not without challenges, as we witness the ups and downs of the efforts, legacy and work that the productive ladies in this documentary set out to do.
Venture Capitalism for female-driven business brands presently is still (sadly in some ways) a relatively unknown brand, but the reality, as with all business, is that money is the driving motivation, which as Gless points out enables you to create and invent what you want. Others point out that optimism is the key and to keep picking yourself up from knock down after knock down, as there is always somebody out there who will be willing to invest in your own brand and idea.
SHOW ME THE MONEY is a film designed to provide and provoke context for all genders and background, an educational experience that is designed and destined to inspire all of us, regardless of our experience and years.
SHOW HER THE MONEY won Best Documentary Feature at the Los Angeles International Film Festival 2023.
