Known for being one of the most explicit books of all time, LADY CHATTERLEY’S LOVER comes to our screens on Sunday and stars GAME OF THRONES’ Richard Madden and Holliday Grainger in their second collaboration since CINDERELLA.
Branded as ‘the new Poldark’, the feature-length drama is an adaptation of DH Lawrence’s 1928 novel. Grainger is Lady Constance, a married aristocrat whose relationship with her husband (James Norton) deteriorates after he is left wheelchair-bound from WW1. Lacking intamacy, Lady Constance seeks comfort from the estate’s gamekeeper Mellors, played by Madden, and a forbidden love affair ensues.
Producer Serena Cullen ruffled some feathers earlier this month by comparing the adaptation to pornography during an interview with The Sun. “I was quite shocked reading the script, and when I saw the film, watching one sex scene. I have never seen anyone do the things Mellors, the gamekeeper, does to Lady Chatterley. I’m not sure what more we could have shown unless it was for porn. I’ve watched lots of Hollywood films where the girl wears a bra in bed – we didn’t do that.”
