Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is the fifth instalment of the beloved Jurassic Parkfranchise, and it certainly does it justice.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom takes place 3 years after the events of Jurassic World, with Bryce Dallas Howard (Claire) and Chris Pratt (Owen) venturing back to Isla Nublar in a bid to save the dinosaurs from an impending volcanic eruption. Jeff Goldblum reprises his role as Ian Malcom, unfortunately only for brief amounts of screen time.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

Like many, I was curious what Fallen Kingdom would have to offer, however I was pleasantly surprised. Fallen Kingdom is packed with suspense, tension and heart wrenching scenes which remind you of why you loved the original Jurassic Park so much. Masterfully directed scenes and imaginative cinematography immerses you into the film’s fictional island and keeps you on the edge of your seat, as well as moving you emotionally.

The film features a new terrifying man-made dinosaur, the Indoraptor, created using DNA from the previous film’s Indominus Rex and a Velociraptor. However, the real antagonists of the film are Eli Mills (Rafe Spall) and Gunnar Eversoll (Toby Jones) who exploit the Lockwood fortune and work together to attempt to auction the Isla Nublar dinosaurs for a large profit. The film explores themes of human greed, as well as the desire for profit. The Indoraptor is marketed at an auction as ‘stronger than any human soldier.’

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

The film ends with the beloved Ian Malcom explaining that dinosaurs and humans will now have to co-exist. In the 2015 film, humans were the ones in danger. Now, it seems like the tables have turned.

What impressed me most was that this film offered new ideas that we haven’t previously seen in any Jurassic Park films. There are so many new elements to explore in the next instalment, and I am very excited to see where the new era takes us. To quote the film’s final words, “welcome to Jurassic World.”
