Josh Boone

Director of THE FAULT IN OUR STARS, Josh Boone has announced that his take on THE STAND will span across four movies.

This is a pretty big decision considering the project hasn’t really left the ground yet but according to Collider, Warner Brothers are keen “to have a product with enough set pieces to satisfy the international market without skimping on character”.

Based on Stephen King‘s book of the same name, THE STAND will be a post-apocalyptic horror story that starts with the release of a devastating disease epidemic and takes us on a tale of survival and terror.

Boone has been speaking to Hollywood Babble-On‘s Podcast about his version of the script; “I sold them on a single, three hour movie. I went and got [Stephen] King sold on it, everybody’s really excited…I told the story non-linear and that was the way I was able to compress that book and get everything into that script”.

Seems good enough, right? Apparently not, Boone went on to explain how Warner Bros. were excited for more; “They came back and said “would you do it as multiple films?” and I said “f*** yes!” I loved my script, and I was willing to drop it in an instant because you’re able to do an even truer version that way. So I think we are going to do like four movies.”

Boone is clearly passionate about his new project and it looks like he’s got a secret or two up his sleeve; “We’ve already been talking to lots of people, and have people on board in certain roles that people don’t know about. We’re looking to go into production next year, maybe in the spring.”

This is turning out to be a really exciting future franchise!
