British star James Corden is on a high – literally – as he has recently been spotted in Los Angeles putting up his own billboard in preparation for his new US show THE LATE LATE SHOW.
On his first ever live show, the British funny man will be joined by Tom Hanks when he makes his debut as the host of one of America’s most popular chat shows tonight.
The actor and comedian is taking over from Scottish-born Craig Ferguson on THE LATE LATE SHOW and the 35-year-old has admitted that despite feeling like ‘the luckiest man on earth’ he is nervous about how his presenting style will be received, but maintains his humour can work across the pond:
“Funny is funny, and if it’s good, it travels.” He told The Guardian: “These shows are bred on familiarity. It’s going to take a really long time to get anybody to watch it.”
However, as with any new change after such a long time, there is always a period of adjustment for members of the audience and he is hoping they do not make judgements too quickly:
“To judge it on a night or a month or six months, it’s the equivalent of trying a souffle after it’s been in the oven for 10 minutes.”
Having good, entertaining guests will always be key and joining Hanks on the opening show will be Mila Kunis, who recently had a baby with partner Ashton Kutcher.
The move to the States has been a gradual process for James Corden after living in New York while onstage with his play ONE MAN, TWO GUVNORS on Broadway and then shortly after, he moved to Los Angeles with his wife, Julia Carey, and two children late last year.
Later this week the Gavin & Stacey star will be joined by US actors Chris Pine and Will Ferrell.
The show’s producers, along with Corden, have already said they intend to use a British technique that does not happen as often on US chat shows – bringing all the guests on together, a la Jonathon Ross, Graham Norton etc.
The show will be recorded in front of a live audience from Monday to Friday.
It will air on US network CBS at 11.35pm CST (4.35am UK time on Tuesday).
