It seems things have changed. Idris Elba no longer be playing Deadshot in The Suicide Squad, however, he is still going to stay on as part of the cast.

Previous reports suggested that Idris Elba was going to replace Will Smith as Deadshot, the marksman who had to pull out of his commitment to the role due to an overlap in his work schedule.

However, Variety has revealed that director James Gunn has decided to step away from the Deadshot character and now, the British actor will play a brand new character.

It seems quite a smart move from the DC team – we all know no one can replace Will Smith in a role, even a fantastic actor like Elba, but the key thing to note is that now, should Smith choose to return to his role in the near future, he will be able to do so.

Suicide Squad Idris Elba

It would have been great to have both Will Smith and Idris Elba in the movie, but we can’t have it all, can we?! Fans of the movie will be pleased to see three characters from the first film reprising their roles: Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney’s Captain Boomerang, and Viola Davis’s Amanda Waller.

What do you think of the change to the casting and characters? Will you be watching The Suicide Squad reboot when it is released? As always, we like to know your thoughts, so leave a comment below, tweet us @filmandtvnow or drop us a comment on our Facebook page
