A new Sky Cinema Original film, HOTEL MUMBAI, chronicling the tragic events of the 2008 Mumbai attacks, is set to get a simultaneous Sky and Theatrical release in UK and Irish Cinemas from 27th September 2019. Take a look at the brand new footage in the video trailer below:
Director Anthony Maras makes his debut with a story based on a screenplay he co-wrote with John Collee (and researched thoroughly), that was inspired by the events of 26th November, 2008, in which Jihadi terrorists lay siege to a key tourist area of Mumbai, encompassing innocent people as they face a day long fight to survive.
The cast includes Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire, Lion), Armie Hammer (Call Me By Your Name, The Social Network), Jason Isaacs (The Death Of Stalin, Harry Potter), Nazanin Boniadi (Counterpart, Homeland) and Anupam Kher (Silver Linings Playbook, The Big Sick).
Following its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on 28th September last year, HOTEL MUMBAI is going to give audiences an insight into a tragic event that reminds one of earlier fact-based thrillers like RAID ON ENTEBBE (1976) , the Golden Globe-winning film directed by Irvin (THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK) Kershner, which starred Charles Bronson and Peter Finch, which chronicled the hijacking of a flight which ended up landing in Entebbe, Uganda, then under the rule of Idi Amin.
The film has been inspired by the stories of the survivors of the 2008 events and should provide some enlightenment to audiences who will be thankful for the power of dramatic cinema to bring them into a world in which innocence and pride were sacrificed for the sake of a bad faith and belief.
The story has been previously told in a 2009 documentary, SURVIVING MUMBAI (AKA MUMBAI MASSACRE), directed by Victoria Midwinter Pitt, which was an Australian / UK co-production.
