There’s some good news for Disney fans as the studio has announced that they’re developing a live-action remake of their 1997 hit Hercules.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the script is to be penned by Dave Callaham (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings).

In the original film, Disney tackled Greek mythology in this animated feature. Hercules (Tate Donovan), a son of gods, was snatched as a baby by Hades (James Woods) and forced to live among mortals as a half-man, half-god. Now a teenager, Hercules needs to perform a rite of passage on Earth to prove himself worthy of living with the gods on Mount Olympus. With his plucky satyr sidekick, Philoctetes (Danny DeVito), along for the ride, Hercules must learn how to use his strength to defeat a series of evil creatures.

Joe and Anthony Russo, the directors of AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR and ENDGAME will be producing the movie via their AGBO banner. At this point in time, it is believed that the duo will not be directing the movie.

There’s no official new regarding the cast just yet, but we will expect to hear confirmations at some point in the near future. However, on the movie rumour mill, Ariana Grande‘s name has been circulating after her recent performance of “I Won’t Say I’m in Love” during The Disney Family Singalong, which features in the film. In addition to Grande, Idris Elba and Ryan Gosling’s names have also been thrown into the mix as potential cast, however, it’s unsure at this stage how much of wishful thinking that really is with any of them rumoured to be involved.
