Star-Wars-Killing-off-Han-Solo-

The STAR WARS universe just keeps getting bigger and bigger.

Disney Studios in association with Lucas Film productions have just announced the latest film to be joining the Star Wars Cinematic Universe, everyone’s favourite galactic rebel who can pilot his way though the Kessel Run in under twelve parsecs is getting his own prequel stand alone film.

That’s right, Han Solo is getting an origin story (dare I say prequel?).

The film will tell the story of the young Han Solo pre Star Wars: Episode IV and how he became the legendary outlaw that we all know and love from the original star wars films that were released between 1977 and 1985.

To make this announcement just that little bit sweeter comes the news of who is to direct this new entry into the STAR WARS anthology. Directing power team Phil Lord and Chris Miller, known for their outstanding work in both animation and live action bringing us such run-away hits including the CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS series, 21/22 JUMP STREET, and last year’s overlooked best animated picture THE LEGO MOVIE.

The directing duo earlier today released this statement about their involvement with the project.

This is the first film we’ve worked on that seems like a good idea to begin with. We promise to take risks, to give the audience a fresh experience, and we pledge ourselves to be faithful stewards of these characters who mean so much to us. This is a dream come true for us. And not the kind of dream where you’re late for work and all your clothes are made of pudding, but the kind of dream where you get to make a film with some of the greatest characters ever, in a film franchise you’ve loved since before you can remember having dreams at all.”

Also attached to the project is father and son team, Lawrence Kasdan (who wrote The Empire Strikes Back, and is also a credited screenwriter for the upcoming Star Wars Episode VIII) and Joe Kasdan.

The new Han Solo film has been given the release day of May 25th 2018.

Are you excited and pumped to see more from Han Solo in the Star Wars universe? Or do you want the characters back story to remain the myth that it already is? Did you know that Han Solo is married during the events of Episode IV to someone who isn’t princess Leia? For more news as it happens keep checking back to Film And TV Now.
