Greatest Days: Ruth Wilson, Cush Jumbo & Rosamund Pike in talks to star in Take That movie musical

Ruth Wilson, Cush Jumbo and Rosamund Pike in negotiations to star in film, Greatest Day, featuring music of the British pop group Take That 

Golden Globe® winner Ruth Wilson, OBE recipient Cush Jumbo, and Academy Award® nominee Rosamund Pike are all in negotiations to star in GREATEST DAYS, the film adaptation of the hit stage musical “The Band.” Additionally, Sierra/Affinity has come on board to handle international sales of the film making the project available to buyers for the first time at this year’s Virtual Cannes Film Market.

Inspired by the songs of Take That, one of the world’s biggest pop acts, GREATEST DAYS is a feel-good universal story of love and friendship. Developed with the support of Universal Music Group, the film focuses on five schoolgirls who have the night of their lives at a concert from their favorite boy band. 25 years later their lives have changed in a myriad of ways as they reunite to reminisce about their past and discover their future.

The group Take That added, “GREATEST DAYS is a film dedicated to all those who have supported us throughout the years. It puts a mirror on our audience – it’s a celebration of our music but it’s literally all about the fans and their friendships. Our fans have been on a 30-year journey with us and we have an incredibly strong bond with them, so seeing that they will be represented on screen by such a strong, talented cast is incredibly exciting.”

GREATEST DAYS is directed by Coky Giedroyc (HOW TO BUILD A GIRL), written by Tim Firth (CALENDAR GIRLS, KINKY BOOTS), and choreographed by Drew McOnie. Danny Perkins (CAROL, THE SECRET GARDEN, EARLY MAN) and Kate Solomon (UNITED 93, GREEN ZONE, LEGEND) will produce via their Elysian Film Group banner alongside Damian Jones (LADY IN THE VAN, ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS, THE IRON LADY) and his DJ Films banner.

Take That, David Pugh and Dafydd Rogers will executive produce the project.

Wilson’s film credits include DARK RIVER, for which she was nominated for a British Independent Film Award, THE LITTLE STRANGER, HOW TO TALK TO GIRLS AT PARTIES, LOCKE, SAVING MR BANKS and THE LONE RANGER. Past television credits include BBC and HBO’s HIS DARK MATERIALS, LUTHER, THE AFFAIR for which she won a Golden Globe and MRS WILSON which earned a second BAFTA nomination and which Wilson also served as producer. Wilson is a two-time Olivier award winner for her stage work in ANNA CHRISTIE and A STREET CAR NAMED DESIRE. Wilson has also been nominated for two TONY awards for her work on Broadway in CONSTELLATIONS and most recently in KING LEAR.  Upcoming projects include TRUE THINGS ABOUT ME, directed by Harry Wootliff. This will be the first film made under Wilson’s production company LADY LAZARUS.

Jumbo is most well known for starring in CBS series The Good Fight and was recently seen as a lead in Deadwater Fell opposite David Tenant on Channel 4 in the UK and Acorn TV in the US. Cush is the author of Josephine and I and received an OBE last year for her contribution to drama. She will next be seen playing Hamlet at the Young Vic Theatre.

Pike’s film credits include GONE GIRL, which earned her an Academy Award nomination, A PRIVATE WAR for which she was Golden Globe nominated, A UNITED KINGDOM and most recently, RADIOACTIVE. Pike won an Emmy for her performance in the television comedy series STATE OF THE UNION. She will next be seen in Amazon Studio’s television adaptation of Robert Jordan’s best-selling fantasy book series The Wheel of Time.

Take That is one of the biggest boy bands of all time, having sold over 45 million records worldwide with 12 number 1 UK hits. Hit songs which will be featured in the film include “Patience,” “Back For Good,” “A Million Love Songs,” “Relight My Fire,” and “Could It Be Magic.” The group is in talks to pen an original song for the feel-good movie. 

Wilson is repped by CAA, Troika, Untitled Entertainment, Relevant and Jackoway and Austen. Jumbo is represented by Curtis Brown Group, ICM, Anonymous Content and Multitude Media. Pike is represented by CAA, Magnolia Entertainment, United Agents and Prosper PR. 

Domestic rights of the film are being handled by CAA Media Finance.
