Daniel Radcliffe

Could Daniel Radcliffe be landing himself another big movie role very soon? Well, it certainly seems that way.

The actor is rumoured to be in negotiations to star in GRAND THEFT AUTO, a true-life account of a fight between the creator of the popular video game Grand Theft Auto and a Miami lawyer who wanted to ban video game violence.

The film, which is being made by the BBC, is set to be brought to the big screen by upcoming British director Owen Harris, who sat in the director’s chair for episodes of MISFITS and BLACK MIRROR. He recently wrapped his first feature film, KILL YOUR FRIENDS, starring Nicholas Hoult and James Corden.

Radcliffe looks set to take on the role of Sam Houser, the British co-founder and president of Rockstar Games, the company behind GTA as well as games such as Max Payne and Red Dead. The games are largely known globally for their rather violent role-play scenes and it has become one of the world’s biggest game franchises.

The introduction of the games into the market, did cause some raucous as during the start of the 21st century, Houser and Rockstar Games came under repeated attacks from activist attorney Jack Thompson. He was an unorthodox Florida attorney who wanted to put an end to the rising amount of media companies releasing entertainment which contains rape and sex and glorifying violence in the video game industry.

However, after several attempts to prevent the release of GTA and have it removed, he was disbarred in 2008 for inappropriate behaviour. As of yet, there has been no official announcements as to who will be cast in his role.

James Wood has penned the script for this one, which was previously titled ROCKSTAR GAMES.

The movie is reported to go into production April 20th, is based on a book by David Kushner titled Jacked: The Outlaw Story of Grand Theft Auto.
