Mike Nichols

Devastating news today for the film industry, as the brilliantly talented Mike Nichols passes away aged 83.

THE GRADUATE, THE BIRDCAGE, CHARLIE WILSON’S WAR, CLOSER and CATCH-22; just some of the fabulous titles to come from Nichols in his long career as Broadway and feature film director, producer and writer.

Achieving so called EGOT status – Nichols is one of the few people to have won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony.

No cause of death has been released, but it is a sudden shock to his friends and family. Already, a flood of statements have come from those who have worked with him and those who simply loved his work.

At the beginning of his career, Nichols was one half of a legendary comedy duo, along with Elaine May in 1958. In 1962 the pair parted ways and Nichols began his career as a theatre and film director.

Nichols is survived by his wife Dianne Sawyer, his son and two daughters.
