Glasgow Film Festival

The schedule for this year’s Glasgow Film Festival has been released. It runs from the 18th of February to the 1st of March and includes the work of hundreds of different people.

The festival will open with WHILE WE’RE YOUNG, a comedy starring Ben Stiller, Naomi Watts and Amanda Seyfried. It follows an older couple who flattered when a younger married couple wish to befriend them. This will be the film that kick starts the festival for two weeks.

Split into different sections, Glasgow Film Festival makes it easy for you to choose which sort of film you want to see. There are dozens of events also taking place, including a roller disco alongside a screening of DAZED AND CONFUSED, and arcade games before and after the screening of THE KING OF KONG: A FISTFUL OF QUARTERS.

This year, GFF is celebrating Australian cinema, showing films such as MAD MAX 2: THE ROAD WARRIOR alongside several others as part of their Films of Oz series. On the centenary year of Ingrid Bergman’s birth, they are celebrating by screening some of her best work, including classics such as CASABLANCA, NOTORIOUS, SPELLBOUND and MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS. It is not all about the old however, with the festival showing dozens of films by debut directors such as BLIND, a film about a young woman who loses her sight and stays at home writing imaginative stories to cope.

There is also a section of the festival dedicated to families; the Modern Families section includes classics such as THE GOONIES and THE INCREDIBLES, alongside new releases like SHAUN THE SHEEP: THE MOVIE. These films are all on at earlier times each day. Some of the most anticipated films to be screened include Jon Stewart’s ROSEWATER, and STILL ALICE. Julianne Moore’s Oscar nominated performance in this is one many will be looking forward to.

Celebrating the best Britain has to offer is another aspect of the festival, as is showing work from around the world. The Frightfest is often the most popular part, with a dozen horror movies including Eli Roth’s Clown, and supernatural thrillers like THE ATTICUS INSTITUTE. There are also several documentaries being screened this year, relating to a wide range of subjects. Some worthy of noting could be ELECTRIC BOOGALOO: THE WILD, UNTOLD STORY OF CANNON FILMS, which is all about the B-movie genre. Also, LIFE’S A BEACH, a film about a man determined to live out with the system, who built his house from driftwood and old car parts.

These are just some of the films and events being screened and shown at the Glasgow Film Festival. To see the full schedule, visit http://www.glasgowfilm.org/festival/brochure.
