Netflix has announced that Gillian Anderson has joined the new season of The Crown as the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Margaret Thatcher. The actress who previously starred in THE X-FILES has boarded the show alongside the previously announced Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II. The casting announcement was revealed on social media via Twitter.

The third series covers the years 1964-1977 and the screenplay has been penned by Peter Morgan.  This season, the show stars Oscar winner Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II (she doesn’t need a title in our eyes, she already is a queen!), Tobias Menzies as Prince Phillip, Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret, Ben Daniels as Tony Armstrong-Jones, Josh O’Connor as Prince Charles, Erin Doherty as Princess Anne, Marion Bailey as The Queen Mother and Jason Watkins as Prime Minister Harold Wilson.
