A24 announced on Wednesday that it will release highly acclaimed Sundance favorite A GHOST STORY in the UK on August 11th. To celebrate the release, they have also teased us with a brand new still from the movie, which you can see above.
The studio will partner with frequent collaborator Picturehouse Entertainment on the theatrical rollout. The film, a cosmic exploration of time, love, and the essential human longing for meaning and connection, was directed by renowned filmmaker David Lowery (Pete’s Dragon, Ain’t Them Bodies Saints) and stars recent Academy Award winner Casey Affleck and two‐time Academy Award nominee Rooney Mara. It premiered earlier this year at Sundance to rave reviews and was recently announced as the closing film at Sundance Film Festival.
In A GHOST STORY, Lowery will also be working on his own script which he has penned.
Here is the official synopsis: A ghost (Casey Affleck) silently observes his grieving widow (Rooney Mara) in his beloved home.
There is certainly an interesting aspect ratio for this film from what we have seen in the trailer (below) and it seems to be bringing a different story to life – we certainly wouldn’t expect to see Affleck wearing a sheet for most of the film, but it is seems to work with the premise of the story. Also, what is interesting is that reportedly, the film was shot in a mostly singular location – in one house.
There has been a lot of excitement and buzz surrounding A GHOST STORY since it premiered on January 22, 2017 at the Sundance Film Festival to largely positive reviews. With an Oscar already under his belt, Affleck will no doubt garner a lot of attention towards the film and with Mara also involved in the project, it certainly is set for success.
Joining Affleck and Mara on the big screen for this one is McColm Sephas Jr., Kenneisha Thompson, Grover Coulson, Liz Cardenas Franke and Barlow Jacobs.
The film is produced by Sailor Bear, Zero Trans Fat Productions, Ideaman Studios and Scared Sheetless.
