Today is a good day. In fact, today is a VERY good day and that is thanks to BBC One and James Corden whom have announced the most exciting news: GAVIN AND STACEY are returning back to the small screen for a Christmas special!
The Bafta-winning sitcom, tells the story of a long-distance relationship between a girl from south Wales and an Essex boy. We haven’t seen the duo since the last series was screened in the UK way back in 2010. Yes, that is 9-years we have been waiting for a return of Gavin and Stacey.
The Beebs took to social media to share the fantastic news of the impending Christmas special which has been penned by James Corden and Ruth Jones:

In a joint statement, Corden and Jones – who both also star in the show – said: “Over the last 10 years we’ve talked a lot about Gavin and Stacey – where they might be today and what their lives might look like.
“And so in secret we took the plunge and wrote this one hour special. We’ve loved revisiting Barry and Essex again, and bringing the characters back together has been a joy.
“We’re so excited to get the chance to work with our fabulous cast and crew once more and to give fans of the show a festive treat this Christmas.”
The series was a huge hit back in 2007 up until 2010 on the BBC. It’s New Year’s Day series closure episode recorded an epic 10.3 million viewers showing just how popular the series was. With the introduction of streaming services showing the original series, the show has garnered a new generation of fans so no doubt the viewing figures for the Christmas special will be back up there and possibly more!
Corden and Jones – who play the characters Smithy and Nessa – are returning to their loveable roles and will be joined in the new special by castmates Mathew Horne and Joanna Page – who play the titular couple, plus Rob Brydon, Larry Lamb, Melanie Walters and Alison Steadman.
