Galaxy Quest

By Grabthar’s Hammer, by the suns of Warvan, the NSEA Protector will once again soar the space ways!

An adaptation of the 1999 cult classic sci-fi parody movie GALAXY QUEST is set to head to Amazon at some point in the near future.

The original movie starred: Tim Allan, Sigourney Weaver, Tony Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell, and Daryl Mitchell as the cast of a long cancelled sci-fi show who reluctantly become heroes after they are mistaken for stars of a historical documentary the in-need Thermians from the Klaatu Nebula.

Galaxy Quest was commercially and critically successful, winning both the Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation and the Nebula Award for Best Script.

The move was first indicated in April, when it was reported that Robert Gordon (the movie’s co-writer) was working on a pilot and would serve as the show’s executive producer, alongside the original’s director, Dean Parisot. Mark Johnson and Melissa Bernstein will serve as producers.

In the sixteen years since its release the movie has garnered a following amongst sci-fi fans for proving that Red Shirts aren’t always destined to die horribly at the hands of evil alien dictators or misunderstood space monsters.

A Galaxy Quest TV series would have plenty of aspects of sci-fi and fandom to parody and satirise on an ongoing basis, including:

• Old shows being remade for the sake of nostalgia to make a quick buck.

• Stars being hounded on social media with love (and other emotions) by fans, whom have little else to do.

• It being compulsory for a character to remove an item of clothing every few scenes, because they’re just soooooo pretty.

• TV and cinema’s obsession with cheap video game graphics for alien locales.

• Fan petitions for new series’.

• Fun concepts being reimagined as realistically ‘grim’ and ‘gritty’ because whoever said TV should be fun.

• The must-have love triangle for all the tweens who love Twilight.
