Concluding its third season in March with low ratings, FOX will not be renewing the romantic comedy.
Written by and starring Mindy Kaling, THE MINDY PROJECT follows an OB/GYN doctor as she juggles her career with the pursuit of romance. Now expecting a child with her co-worker Danny Castellano played by Chris Messina, the season ended on a cliffhanger with Danny revealing that he did not want to get married (again). With their relationship in jeopardy, Danny travels to India to see Mindy’s parents and announces on their doorstep “Hi, I’m Danny Castellano, and I’m in love with your daughter.” Will he ask for their blessing to marry Mindy? We may never know!
Talking to E! Online, Messina was unsure about the shows future, “You’ll probably find out faster than I will. I’m the last person to know these things.”
But all may not be lost for Mindy. According to multiple reports, online video service Hulu is in talks with Universal TV and may pick up the show for two more seasons.
Kaling and Hulu are yet to release an official statement.
