J.K. Rowling’s book for grown-up’s THE CASUAL VACANCY gets it’s first trailer for BBC adaptation…

Following on from her HARRY POTTER mega-success, J.K. Rowling‘s novel for adults THE CASUAL VACANCY didn’t quite reach the dizzying heights that her Hogwarts adventure set, but still gave fans a thrilling ride in secret and deceit based in a sleepy British town.

After a couple of years in development, BBC have finally released the first trailer for the THE CASUAL VACANCY adaption and it really is worlds away from the HARRY POTTER series.

Despite the inclusion of the one and only Dumbledor, Michael Gambon, THE CASUAL VACANCY is completely different from Potter and should be judged as such. Saying that, there’s nothing overly enticing about the first trailer.

Even with it’s suspicious undertones and clear indication for a whole ‘skeletons in the closet’ affair, there’s not much that sets THE CASUAL VACANCY above any other British television shows right now. Here’s the synopsis;

Featuring Rory Kinnear (Skyfall), Simon McBurney (Mission: Impossible 5), and Michael Gambon (the Harry Potter films), “The Casual Vacancy” centers on Pagford, a seemingly idyllic English village with a cobbled market square and ancient abbey. Behind the pretty façade, however, is a town at war: rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils.

The trailer has an almost soap-opera feel about it and will no doubt find a solid audience in those who are comfortable with a little light Sunday night viewing. Rowling will also no doubt find a few of her ‘Potterheads’ watching out of sheer curiosity.

Being a joint production between the BBC and HBO, the three part mini-series will air on the BBC February 15th 2015, followed by a pretty big air in the USA shortly after.
