Alejandro Amenabar returns to the horror genre with creepy new tears for REGRESSION…
With his 2001 hit ghost story, THE OTHERS, starring Nicole Kidman ensuring his name was firmly carved into the horror genre, Alejandro Amenabar has gone on to further critical acclaim with the likes of THE SEA INSIDE, featuring Javier Bardem and AGORA with Rachel Weiz. Now he’s back with the horror flick, REGRESSION starring Emma Watson and Ethan Hawke.Â
Hawke himself isn’t unfamiliar with the horror genre, after appearances in the likes of THE PURGE and SINISTER, and at first glance REGRESSION looks fairly similar to these luke-warm scare flicks. As the trailer goes on through, Amenabar’s creation looks pretty creepy indeed, delving deep into a cult-like character for Watson. Â
The psychological thriller centres on Detective Bruce Kenner (Hawke) who’s investigating the case of young Angela (Watson), whom has accused her father, John Gray (David Dencik), of an unspeakable crime. When John unexpectedly and without recollection admits guilt, renowned psychologist Dr. Raines (David Thewlis) is brought in to help him relive his memories and what they discover unmasks a horrifying nationwide mystery.
REGRESSION looks suitably dark and creepy! Watson’s been taking pretty great roles since her HARRY POTTER fame and with a supporting role from David Thewlis, there are high hopes for this horror!Â
