Emily Blunt

Emily Blunt is in talks to headline director Rob Marshall’s Mary Poppins sequel

We can’t imagine anybody else more perfect for the role in Walt Disney Pictures MARY POPPINS sequel than Emily Blunt and we are crossing our fingers and toes she signs on the dotted line for the iconic role.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Emily Blunt (EDGE OF TOMORROW, SICARIO) is currently in discussions to take over the role made famous by the wonderful Julie Andrews. If the actress signs on for the project, she would reunite with her INTO THE WOODS director, Rob Marshall who will be helming the sequel.

Mary Poppins first became famous thanks to her creation in a series of children’s books by P.L. Travers, and so popular was her story, that she was adapted for the big screen in 1964. Julie Andrews famously starred alongside Dick Van Dyke co-starred in the Robert Stevenson film, which told the story of a magical nanny who comes to care for a British family, the Banks.

The original Mary Poppins was set in the year 1910 and it is believed that the sequel will take place in the 1930s.

The news first broke of a possible sequel back in Autumn 2o15 which will include story elements from Travers’ eight Mary Poppins books, including the first literary sequel, Mary Poppins Comes Back. There has been no confirmation as of yet on what Disney’s official title will be, but it will certainly be an intriguing concept, especially as the original film is still so popular today with young children and adults alike, so there will definitely be a good market out there for a sequel – but it will have to be something pretty special to live up to the first film.

The MARY POPPINS sequel will be produced by John DeLuca and Marc Platt, who also worked with Marshall on INTO THE WOODS.

Emily Blunt can next be seen on the big screen in the SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN sequel, THE HUNTSMAN: WINTER’S WAR, which hits cinemas April 8th, 2016.
