We Are Parable announce that EARTH MAMA, written and directed by Savanah Leaf and starring Tia Nomore and Erika Alexander will be released in UK cinemas from 8 December, following its’ World Premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and the UK Premiere at this year’s BFI London Film Festival.

Savanah Leaf’s critically-acclaimed, intimate and moving feature debut EARTH MAMA follows Gia (Tia Nomore), a pregnant single mother, with two children in foster care who embraces her Bay Area community as she fights to reclaim her family.

A delicate yet raw portrayal, EARTH MAMA explores the experience of black single mothers fighting the foster care system and a society that expects them to fail and strips them of their agency.

EARTH MAMA’s Savanah Leaf is a Team GB Olympian and award-winning filmmaker, whose work weaves magical realism with poignant social commentary.

Her previous film The Heart Still Hums (2020) is a short documentary following the stories of five women as they fight for their children through the cycle of homelessness, drug addiction and neglect from their own parents.

The film won Best Documentary Short at the Palm Springs International ShortFest, BlackStar Film Festival and Nashville Film Festival. Her music video ‘This Land’ for Gary Clark Jr. was nominated for Best Music Video at the 2020 Grammys.

Making her screen acting debut in the leading role of ‘Gia’ is rapper and musical artist Tia Nomore. The film also stars Erika Alexander, rapper and musical artist Doechii who also makes her acting debut, Keta PriceSharon Duncan BrewsterDominic Fike and Bokeem Woodbine.

EARTH MAMA is produced in collaboration with Academy Films, Park Pictures, Film4 and A24 and will be distributed in the UK by We Are Parable.
