Dungeons

The fantasy genre is as popular now as it’s ever been. With audiences worldwide turning up in their droves to watch the epic conclusion to Peter Jackson’s THE HOBBIT TRILOGY last Christmas, Universal looks to continue to latch on to the sudden increase in the fantasy genre with next years adaptation of the popular videogame WORLD OF WARCRAFT.

However Warner Brothers aren’t quite ready to hand over the fantasy crown yet, as they have just announced a DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS movie is happening.

Dungeons-Dragons

After a lengthy legal battle between Sweetpea Entertainment and Hasbro, Warner Bros. announced that everything has been resolved between the two production companies and that no mythological blood has been spilled, meaning that DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS is once again back on the Warner Bros slate, with the three production companies working together to bring the popular board game to life.

Greg Silverman, Warner Brothers Creative Development and Worldwide Production Boss, released a statement confirming the company’s involvement with the project.

“We are so excited about bringing the world of Dungeons and Dragons to life on the big screen, this is far and away the most well-known brand in fantasy, which is the genre that drives the most passionate film followings. D&D has endless creative possibilities, giving our filmmakers immense opportunities to delight and thrill both fans and moviegoers new to the property.”

Dungeons And Dragons

For those who aren’t aware of the cultural phenomenon of DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS, it’s an open ended, yet structured, role-playing game in which players create their own character based on certain powers and abilities, ranging from magic, thieving and brawling skills. Often played in a large group, the party are sent on a quest by the dungeon master, where the limits of the game know no bounds, where the only restriction is your own imagination.

Hasbro’s Brain Goldner and Stephen Davis along side Courtney Solomon and Allan Zeman of Sweetpea Entertainment with Roy Lee (THE LEGO MOVIE) are set to produce the film while David Leslie Johnson (THE CONJURING 2 and WRATH OF THE TITANS) has already written the script.
