Disney’s Frozen 2 continues its reign at the top of the UK and Ireland box office with yet another magical weekend making the film the clear number one choice for the Christmas season.

The acclaimed film took over £8.7M this weekend giving it a total of £27.33M which sees it take more than the lifetime totals of Disney’s Wreck it Ralph, Tangled, Moana and Zootropolis after just 10 days on release.

Globally the film has now taken $739M following breaking the record for the biggest ever opening for an animated film and took the record for the #1 Thanksgiving gross of all time in the United States taking $124M over the five day weekend.

Audiences still seem not able to “let it go” with the acclaimed new songs, including Into the Unknown, Show Yourself, Some Things Never Change and Lost in the Woods, also receiving millions of streams online with the soundtrack outperforming the original, at the same time of release, by a spectacular 260%. Academy Award® winning duo Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez returned for the new film writing seven all-new original songs that capture the emotion, fun and intrigue in a compelling and forever-contagious way.

“The songs and score of Frozen 2 reflect the growth of the characters and the deepening of their story,” says director, writer and the Chief Creative Officer of the Walt Disney Animation Studios, Jennifer Lee. “The music is fun but emotional, personal yet powerful, intimate but also epic. Kristen, Bobby and Christophe have definitely outdone themselves and taken the music to brave new heights.”

The sequel to the animation hit is being brought to the big screen by Academy Award-winning team directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, and producer Peter Del Vecho.

Why was Elsa born with magical powers? The answer is calling her and threatening her kingdom. Together with Anna, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven, she’ll set out on a dangerous but remarkable journey.

In “Frozen,” Elsa feared her powers were too much for the world. In “Frozen 2,” she must hope they are enough.

There is a lot of excitement about the sequel as the first film was the smash hit of 2013. It was loved by children – and big children – all around the world and bagged an impressive $1.2 billion worldwide. This meant that the Disney movie is the highest-grossing animated film of all-time. Those statistics may come as no surprise as the movie was a raving success with audiences and critics alike.
