Blade Runner sequel

The BLADE RUNNER sequel has found its director – Denis Villeneuve.

It seems there is no doubt over the PRISONERS filmmaker’s involvement in the film after an official statement was released by Alcon Entertainment.

Ridley Scott will once again be heavily involved in the project as he will return to produce the sci-fi sequel alongside Alcon’s Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson using a screenplay written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green. Harrison Ford is also confirmed to reprise his role of Rick Deckard from the original movie, released in 1982.

In a joint statement, Kosove and Johnson said: “We are honoured that Harrison is joining us on this journey with Denis Villeneuve, who is a singular talent, as we experienced personally on Prisoners. Hampton and Michael, with Ridley Scott, have crafted a uniquely potent and faithful sequel to one of the most universally celebrated films of all time, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with this amazing, creative team.”

The sequel is set several decades after the conclusion of the original, and Scott has revealed that while Ford is a big part of the movie, the focus is very much on finding him.

Oscar-nominated Villeneuve will reunite with Alcon Entertainment after working with them on the 2013 thriller PRISONERS, starring Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal.
