Christian Bale

Christian Bale just hit the brakes on playing the famed Italian automaker Enzo Ferrari…

It seems the changing physicality of roles has had an impact on Christian Bale over the years, and now due to the change required for Michael Mann’s ENZO FERRARI, the actor has dropped out of the project due to health concerns.

Deadline Hollywood first broke the news about Bale’s withdrawal citing that the reason for his exit is tied to health concerns over the weight loss required to play the role of the iconic car maker. Over the years, Bale has infamously changed his physique for roles, often gaining and losing weight on numerous occasions, which has affected his health.

We can expect to see Mann look for another actor to take the lead on the movie to replace Christian Bale, and no doubt it will be another very recognisable face. We doubt they will wait long to find someone else to fill Bale’s boots as production is set to start later this spring.

ENZO FERRARI will take the audience back to 1957, which tells the personal, intimate story of a passionate man and his sprawling world, at times hilarious and at the next moment devastating, as he faces a brutal challenge to his survival.

The screenplay has been penned by Troy Kennedy-Martin, and revised by David Rayfiel and Mann, based on Brock Yates’ book Enzo Ferrari, The Man, The Cars, The Races.

Vendian Entertainment and YooZoo Bliss Film Fund are financing the project, which plans to shoot this summer in Italy.

Bale, who recently starred in Adam McKay’s THE BIG SHORT, previously worked with Michael Mann on 2009’s PUBLIC ENEMIES. He can next be seen in the period drama THE PROMISE, starring opposite Oscar Isaac.
