Olivia Wilde Returns from the Dead

A new trailer has been released for THE LAZARUS EFFECT and it definitely causes the chills.

THE LAZARUS EFFECT stars Olivia Wilde and actor/filmmaker Mark Duplass as members of a group of medical students, who are working on an experimental treatment for resurrecting the dead on deceased animals – a treatment that seems to work, at that. However, when one of their kind (Wilde) is killed in a lab accident, she ends up becoming the first human tested.

This movie feels like a little low budget horror, which is odd given the star studded cast. The fact that I haven’t heard about this film before this point is equally amazing. There are some big stars in this movie and finding this trailer only one month prior to its release is the first time I have heard of it. The premise itself is fascinating, scientists trying to develop something that will allow them to resurrect something that has died is a premise with a lot of dramatic mileage due to the ethical implications that go along with trying to bring something back from the dead.

There were some really creepy moments in this trailer, people and animals acting strangely or violently under the influence of some kind of malevolent supernatural force is a trope of horror movies. Which is why you know a horror movie is a good example of its genre when it takes a tried and tested cliche like this and makes it interesting again by simply doing it well or providing a good reason for it in the plot. This trailer does both of those things. In THE LAZARUS EFFECT, rather than having the dog barking at things that weren’t there, the writers made the dog one of the hosts for the spirit, the animal appearing in Olivia Wilde‘s character’s room and behaving quite threateningly indeed was a pretty cool way of reinventing the tried and tested writing of animals in horror films.

THE LAZARUS EFFECT hits cinemas February 27th.
